Church Member Story: Woori Yallock Presbyterian Church
Woori Yallock Presbyterian Church is a Church Member of LinC Yarra Valley and provides one of our five weekly social supermarkets.
As we reflect on the last twelve months, we asked Ria Heatherich, who is one of LinC’s Board Members and previous Secretary, to share her experience with LinC Yarra Valley and the deliveries from SecondBite to support the Woori Yallock Presbyterian Church social supermarkets on Fridays at 10.30am.
Reflection
This year again we acknowledge God’s great mercy and beneficence on our church. We have been so blessed in His provision to us, not only as a congregation but as a community. The provision of items from SecondBite and the pantry cupboards to locals in need has seen people come to us for help, not only for food and supplies but for fellowship and friendship. This has resulted in people now attending church services who originally came for much needed food for themselves and their families. As a church we are so very grateful for the SecondBite donations every week again to enable us to give to people in need. It takes much courage to ask for food.
Items for our pantry cupboard are supplied mainly by members of our congregation who will buy some extra items bought during regular shopping. It is good for them to be able to help others in need in an anonymous way. God blesses such givers. Sometimes money is donated for us to buy supplies such as toilet paper and personal items.
When rents or loan repayments are due, the family needs food, the electricity bill has come in, Johnny badly needs new shoes, the car has problems, then a box of laundry detergent is seen as a godsend. Some of the recipients of the SecondBite items have brought their produce in to share with others.
By providing a place where people can come for companionship and much-needed help in the way of food we provide a small example of God’s great gift to us in His salvation. It is my prayer that we may continue to do this non-judgmentally and sensitively, that God may be honoured and His Holy Name be praised.
