LinC Yarra Valley 25 years young!

LinC-Yarra Valley Celebrating 25 Years - Marylin Leermakers

At our AGM last year, LinC Yarra Valley (Victoria) celebrated a quarter of a century! LinC Yarra Valley was one of the first affiliates in Australia, being established in 1992. Many volunteers attended the meeting and celebration which was held at Pallotti College, near Millgrove, in the picturesque Yarra River Valley.

Chairperson Marylin Leermakers (above) welcomed all, including LinC National Director Max Anderson. She said,

“It has been a great privilege to serve and care for many thousands of local people for over a quarter of a century. Volunteers both past and present have given generously of their time and talents to make a difference in the lives of others and have helped LinC grow and build a positive profile in our community.”

Program Coordinator, Julie Szabo, reported on the extensive programs provided by Yarra Valley, including community transport, emergency relief ( food parcels, meals, fresh food), and assistance with budgeting.

Secretary, Pamela McLay-Henderson, presented gifts to three long-serving members, Marylin Leermakers and Leonie McCallum.  Rita Lawrence was also given a gift on behalf of her late husband, Walter Lawrence.

Guest Speaker was Rev Dr Stephen Spence, of the Tabor College of Higher Education in Adelaide, one of the founding members of LinC Yarra Valley. At the time he was minister of Millgrove Baptist Church. His stimulating talk was titled “Jesus is Lovely; the Church not so much”.

Stephen cut the anniversary cake to loud applause!
